Elder Miguel

Well transfers were today. My comp Elder Figueroa went home and now i am with Elder Flint from Layton. This Saturday Adilson and Marisa are finally getting married but we have to set another baptismal date because he still hasn't stopped smoking. So yeah we are trying to help him with that. There is this other couple, Ismael and Paola, we started teaching and we marked for them to be baptized on the 11th of October. Everything is going well with them, they're going to church, reading the livro de mormon, praying, and they´re married haha. We´re going to teach them the 3rd lesson later today. Yeah i think those are the only 4 baptisms we have marked right now. But hopefully this transfer we´ll have more.
I got this sweet golden harmonica that i can play a ton of hymns on now. A member gave it to Elder Figueroa but he already had one so now i have it. I also got this guitar that sounds horrible but it works. Oh yeah so I guess Elder Flint brought a guitar with him too which is sweet.
I finally got the august newsletter today haha. I only get mail like during transfers and zone conferences.
I would have sent pics but this computer isn't letting me. Ill try and send some next week.
Well good luck to everyone else. Tchau.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention about Tammy and Laurance who we have been teaching. We taught them everything but the only problem is they haven't been to church yet. and Laurance started having soccer practice on sundays. But the cool thing is, so i guess both tammy and Laurance are adopted, we finally met their Mom who is Canadian. I don't know her name but she speaks english, french, and portuguese. She said she wanted a book of mormon in English. So it will be sweet if we get to teach a lesson in English for a change. Oh and Chad yeah sure ill help you teach that portuguese lady haha. Até mais de novo.

well another month has passed how crazy is this. i was thinking i didn´t tell you guys much about my area and stuff so i probly should feel you in a little more. so yeah Valencia is sweet. its like the 5th biggest city in spain or somethin and i love it. the only problem is there´s tons of flies and also just europe in general but yeah i think i´m gonna die of second hand smoke its ridiculous. but anyways valencia is a big university town too so there´s tons of spaniard college punks ha its great. there´s so much diversity here though. i´m glad you guys all have different cultures in your mission too. its so fun to try all these different foods and stuff. one culture i didn´t hear from you guys though is the africans. theres so many nigerians and ghana people and stuff that speak english that we teach so i get some english practice as well. seriously its crazy how diverse the rest of the world is. the straight up spain culture is great though. remember the siesta thing we were trying to figure out? i dunno how it is for matt but here we get 2 hours for medio dia to just sit at home and eat rest study or whatever. and we wake up at 7.30 and go to bed at 11.30. so i love the scheduling.
the work is great as well. there´s alot more work than i realized. mostly because, as matt mentioned last week, there´s tons of south americans here its great. they cover a majority of our investigators but there´s still some spaniards. as a matter of fact our best one is actually an old spanish guy named Ferran. he had a date set but his family brought a catholic priest to his house and kinda freaked him out. but now hes praying for oct 18 so we´ll see how that goes. but yeah we are so busy we are always running to someone elses piso. we rarely have time for contacting so the mission goal is only for 15 a day but sometimes we get cancelled and we knock buildings but thats not too often. so yeah thats about it. just ending my first transfer and loving it. i live in a 4 man piso with the zone leaders and my comp elder thomas is the district leader. its way good for me but they make me trunky sometimes. seriously its gonna be sweet when we are digging up the time capsule and stuff after that.. oh well times up have fun everybody and we´ll see you next month. love ren

What's going on in all parts of the world? Things are going well in Canada. Jordan I'm not going to lie I am so scared about winter. Everyone keeps telling me horror stories. I came into the mission right when the snow melted and so I've spent all of this time anticipating it scared out of my mind. I don't know about you guys but i am extremely excited for conference. It's so funny before the mission i thought of it as a wonderful time to relax and not go to church. Now I finally get it. THE PROPHET IS SPEAKING! holly cow that is a big deal huh. Who am i this is so weird, i'm changing so rapidly. Dude Jordan your training that is so cool. Out here we say your bearing a son. I'm not sure if that is universal or not, but we refer to our trainers as our fathers. So the more and more I study the gospel, the more and more I realize it's like Star wars. George Lucas was inspired. Oh oh oh Jordan you could also call your greeny your padiwan learner. Things are going well here in Quebec, we have a couple of progressing investigators, so i am happy about that. Who in this group SYLs? I want to know how evil I am comparatively. I really think I should start because my french is in a standstill with this freakin english area. Well I have to part but best of luck to you all. Goooo team!

This week we had the baptism of Helen and Heather, whose mom is now fully activated and assimilated into the Branch. The baptism went very well, I played the violin in it, and President Jardine and his wife even came down from Sacramento to see the service. And the fellowship continues to be excellent, as the whole Baptismal Font room was completely filled with members and even some non-member friends.
Some other miraculous things happened this week. So do you remember the story I told of the 21-year-old, Chou, that randomly showed up last week at church? Well, I called him on Thursday (because he's outside of Stockton on weekdays for school). He told me that he had read several chapters and he had a few questions. Among several other chapters in the book, he read the chapter about why baptism was important (2 Nephi 31) and asked, "Could you explain more about that to me?" So I gave him a little mini-lesson over the phone. I soon asked him, "Did you pray about what you read?" He answered that he had prayed, and that he at first struggled to have "true intent" since he hasn't ever really prayed to God, who he can't see, before. But he said, "I prayed and had a feeling that it was right." He already knew that this was true before I called him. So I set a date with him to get baptized, Oct. 12, and he unhesitently accepted, and he's excited and he got to go to the baptism service of Helen and Heather on Sunday. He is awesome and he truly has pure intent and Sophany, our recent (Cambodian) convert, is being an excellent missionary member friend. We taught them on the weekend the Plan of Salvation, and we were surprise that he asked all the right questions like "What God's purpose for me?" It was a very exciting experience, especially when we could testify that God truly does have a plan for him personally because He had miraculously led Chou to the truth that he had been searching for so eagerly. It was so exciting to see such a miracle fall into our laps. Its amazing--God is preparing many people to receive the Restored Gospel.
I'll tell you more later.
Sincerely,
Elder Sevy

Dear STG Newsletter,
What is up everyone? I’m sure everyone feels the same way but this newsletter
is awesome. Its always a good day when you open up the mail box and
get the newsletter. Sounds like everyone is doing well. Its cool to think
that last year we were just hangin out in stg doing nothing really. And
now were all over the world sharing the gospel in many different languages
The mission is way awesome I love it and am so happy to be here and
stuff. But like sean said a couple months ago I can't wait till were home
and we can share our experiences and stuff. That's going to be awesome.

I am in my 3rd transfer and still in Tenerife. It is an awesome place. I’m
on my 2nd comp. Elder Mcluckie from oxford england. Hes a way cool guy
and only has one more transfer than me. So were learning a lot. I love
it though. It was way weird for a couple of days after my trainer left but
after that it was good. Its so much better when your not getting "trained”
A couple of weeks ago we baptized two african s a wife of a member and
the daughter. It was really good. Their testimonies at the baptism were
so simple but so powerful. It was awesome. They are way funny they
speak that really slow weird english.
Well I got 4 mins left so I don't know what else to say but thanks to all of
you for your example and keep up the good work. I look forward to reading
how everyone is doing? Ren you got the zeta? I don’t I’m speaking with
south americans all day.

hey everyone,
well i only have 8 mins to write. i always do this, wait to the last minute then write the newsletter can anyone else relate? anyways i got transfer calls last night and i found out that im being transferred to norfolk VA, its by the beach and that's all i know about it. me and my comp are being shot gunned out of chesterfield and im getting shot gunned into norfolk with my new comp elder Zimmerman. is that the term they use in your missions "shotgun in", "shotgun out"? well if they don't it means that both missionaries are transferred out of the area or new missionaries are transferred in. so yeah its gonna be fun. well everything is going well. im excited to go into my new area. no baptisms in my first area and that's probably my own fault but im definitely gonna baptize someone in norfolk. man i don't really know what to say. can you all believe that all of us have been out for so long. i mean me rob trevor and ren have even been out for like 4 months already. its gonna be so sweet to get back home and hear all your stories. are you guys learning a ton because i know i am. okay i got to go see ya

Hey guys,

I am still here in Summerside, PEI. I am finishing up my third transfer here. I think I will probably be here for a fourth transfer too so that I can finish up training Elder Trump. The training is going good. I am loving it and learning a lot. It is funny because I will do something and then Elder Trump will do the same thing. It is good though because I always have to watch what I do and say.

We are still teaching the lady named Dorothy that I talked about last time. She is progressing very well. It seems like everything we teach her she agrees with and accepts. The word of wisdom is a big problem here because it seems everyone smokes, drinks alcohol, coffee and tea. They are TIm Horton's every where. I guess Elder Alldredge will be the only one who knows what that is being a Canada thing. But still the same basically everyone does one thing against the Word of Wisdom if not more. And when we taught Dorothy the Word of Wisdom we found out that the only thing she drinks is herbal tea. Which is not against the Word of Wisdom. Then we taught her about tithing and fast offerings. She didn't have a problem about either one. And in fact every time she comes to church she donates to the fast offerings. So she is not even a member yet and she is paying fast offerings. It is crazy how prepared she is. We will be setting a baptismal date around October 14th when she gets back from vacation out west.

It is starting to get pretty cold again. I had to get out the sweater and took (beanie) the other night. I am loving it here though. We are finding a good amount of success.

Oh yeah I had to give a training in a district meeting with President Jacobsen our mission president there. Giving a training in district meeting is not too bad but there is a lot more pressure with your mission president there. It went good though.

We run into a good amount of people from Quebec due to the tourist area this is. Some guys asked me if I spoke french the other day at McDonalds and I laughed. When I told them no they didn't want to talk with us ha-ha. We also have run into some people from the Bahamas. And one of them was even a member. We also see a lot of Japanese because they all have to read Anne of Green Gables in school. Then they want to come and see what it looks like. We see a lot of different people with it being tourist season but that is coming to a close now.

I look forward to getting the newsletter to see how all of you are doing. Good luck and keep up the good work.
Love, Elder Jordan Gray

Hey!
Things in Zion are rolling forward! I have one kid now, and am serving in a place called St. Joseph in Missouri. It is a great place, and the leadership in the ward are AMAZING! Many great things are going to happen here.
So, update on Zion. We don’t have the temple lot in Independence yet, but that time is getting closer and closer. The Community of Christ is losing members and money VERY fast.
We had this cool experience. On Saturday, we took the bus to downtown St. Jo (very far away from home). When we got there, we realized that since it was Saturday, that was the last stop for the buses. So, we were stuck. We knew the Lord had sent us there for a reason, and started looking around for people to talk to. The first guy we talked to was not interested in talking to us, but we pursued him. He finally stopped and talked for a bit, and slowly but surely we broke him down. So he invited us to go over to his house to teach (when he found out that we were stranded, he invited us to stay the night, but we explained how that fly). We taught him the Plan of Salvation, and he committed to read and pray about the Book of Mormon and was coming to church the next day. He ended up calling us the next morning before church telling us that his leg was swollen and that he wouldn’t be able to come. I am pretty sure he wasn’t just saying that. It sounded pretty real. So, that was pretty neat. We never would have met this man named Donald if we hadn’t ally taken the last bus. Donald told us while we were talking to him that a couple of days earlier, he had spent the entire day praying for help. I don’t know if he really prayed from Sunday night to Monday night, but he said he did. Then we showed up.
Well, I hope you are all being very good little missionaries. I feel bad for all you language missionaries. Us englishmen are going to have some fun experiences that come from speaking english. Work hard, do great, and BAPTIZE!!!

P.S. the church is true, the book is blue, and BYU is NUMBER 1!!!!
